This is a great book! It is organized very accessibly and is a good reference and teaching tool. It is clear, well written, and explains trauma in a way that is both grounded in science and very understandable. The best book I have read on this subject!

I consider this book an essential resource in understanding trauma and beginning treatment. The information is presented effectively using vignettes of cases, clear illustrations and diagrams (which is very useful if you are a visual learner), and excellent visual organization of the info. The first part goes into survival circuits, regulation of emotional states, social environment and systems and signals of care. Part II goes into the Ten Treatment Principles, assessment and planning. Part III gives you a comprehensive look into how to use Trauma Systems Therapy. When paired with a good course in learning how to look through a trauma lens, it proves an excellent starting base for trauma treatment.
The information is very easy to understand and good for professionals or those just wanting to learn about trauma treatment. I would recommend this for anyone in a helping profession, not just social workers, psychologists and nurses, but also especially teachers- as they can serve as a frontline for recognizing trauma.
